Panthers tackle Bowel Cancer with lifesaving screening push

The Penrith Panthers are joining the fight against bowel cancer for the third consecutive year, partnering with the Department of Health (DoH) to encourage members and fans to complete the free bowel cancer screening test.

This partnership aims to raise awareness and inspire action through the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program, a free and potentially lifesaving test that could make all the difference.

The DoH will be the gameday partner for the Round 13 clash against the New Zealand Warriors. Fans can visit the precinct activation at Gate B on gameday, with giveaways and information available throughout the event.

It’s time to give a s#@t

Only 4 in 10 people return their free test kits, a staggering statistic given bowel cancer is Australia’s second largest cancer killer but if it is found early more than 90% of patients can be treated successfully.

Minister for Health, Disability and Ageing, Mark Butler said the simple test could save thousands of lives if more Australians took part.

“Bowel cancer is one of the most preventable cancers we face, yet too many Australians are still not taking up the free screening available to them,” Minister Butler said.

“This test can be done easily in your own home and could save your life. I commend the Penrith Panthers for using their platform to encourage more people to take that important step and complete their screening kit.”

Panthers Rugby League CEO Matt Cameron is throwing his support behind the initiative.

“The Panthers are incredibly proud to champion this initiative. We encourage all members and fans to take the opportunity to complete the free bowel screening test — a simple step that could save lives,” Cameron said.
