Jersey Flegg Panthers produce comeback to secure draw

Penrith Panthers scored three late tries to secure a 24-all draw against South Sydney Rabbitohs at Redfern Oval on Saturday afternoon.

The away side trailed by 14 points with 10 minutes remaining before producing a late comeback to secure one competition point.

The Panthers started well when second rower Riley Wake crossed the line for the first four-pointer after seven minutes.

Panthers winger Addison Williams had no issues with the conversion to give the away side a 6-0 advantage.

However, it was the Rabbitohs who took control of the first half, scoring three consecutive tries.

Winger Carson Kaho crossed in the 14th minute, forward Thomas Fletcher scored seven minutes later before halfback Joseph Nohra gave the home side an 18-6 lead at the break.

Winger Luke Philp gave the Panthers life after half-time with a try in the 40th minutes, however Williams couldn’t add the extras.

The Rabbitohs hit back soon after with five-eighth Keahlan Bray crossing and Nohra converting for a 24-10 lead.

Wake crossed for his second try of the game on the stroke of an hour to reduce the Panthers’ deficit to 10 points.

The Panthers were gaining momentum and found another try through Fletcher Haycock in the 64th minutes.

Williams scored on the stroke of full-time but couldn’t land the conversion as the Panthers and Rabbitohs split the points.
