Panthers is proud to announce that Tim Sheens has been inducted into the Panthers Hall of Fame, recognising his significant contribution to the club as both a player and coach.
Sheens will join the club’s four existing Hall of Famers, Grahame Moran, Greg Alexander, Royce Simmons and Craig Gower.
Sheens spent 13 seasons with Panthers as a player (1970-1982) before serving a further four seasons as Head Coach.
Sheens played 174 first grade games for the club. He was named the Merv Cartwright Medallist in 1974 before transitioning into coaching following his retirement.
Sheens' appointment as Head Coach of Panthers proved to be a turning point in the club's history.
Hall of Fame Inductee: Tim Sheens
In the first year of his tenure, Sheens was named Dally M Coach of the Year after guiding Penrith to their winningest season in club history to date.
The following year, the Panthers reached the semi-finals for the first time in their history under Sheens' watch. After finishing the regular season in equal-fifth place, Penrith defeated Manly 10-7 in a play-off to advance to their first finals series.
Sheens’ professional approach, focus on skills training and knowledge of local players and their talents playing a key role in Penrith's mid-1980s breakthrough.
He remained committed to the club during a period of uncertainty and played an important role in developing local talent, helping establish the foundations for the pathway that would eventually see Penrith emerge as a first-grade force.
Having played a significant role in shaping the early history of the club, Sheens' induction to the Panthers Hall of Fame is testament to his enduring contribution.
Sheens becomes the first individual to join the Panthers Hall of Fame since it was established with inaugural members Grahame Moran, Greg Alexander, Royce Simmons and Craig Gower in 2016.
