Penrith Stadium Project Update

The redevelopment of Penrith Stadium marks a major transformation for Western Sydney, turning a traditional match-day venue into a modern stadium and precinct designed for year-round use by the whole community.

From matchday venue to year-round destination

Previously used largely for sporting events, the former stadium offered limited food options, amenities and facilities, with little reason to visit outside game day. The new stadium and precinct have been designed as an open, landscaped area that supports ongoing sport, entertainment and community life.

Fans and visitors will notice the difference from arrival, with improved wayfinding, new secure turnstiles and wider concourses to support better movement throughout the venue.

Inside the stadium, fans can enjoy upgraded amenities, including:

  • Expanded food and beverage outlets
  • More bathrooms
  • Increased accessible seating and bathrooms.
  • New scoreboards, enhanced sound system, digital ribbon boards and improved lighting create a more immersive atmosphere for sporting events and live entertainment. Dedicated social spaces throughout the concourses will also give people more places to meet, relax and spend time together away from their seats.
  • New corporate suites introduce a premium hospitality offering with modern amenities, comfortable indoor spaces, excellent sightlines to the field and year-round flexibility for business and social functions.

Players and officials will also benefit from modern facilities, including:

  • New changerooms and warmup areas
  • A remodelled training field
  • Hot and cold recovery pools
  • Upgraded on-field lighting.

To support major sporting events and live entertainment, the stadium will provide modern media and broadcast facilities, including media boxes, commentary areas and radio facilities, improving coverage and production capability.

Beyond events, the precinct has been designed with everyday community use in mind. The surrounding area will encourage more activity outside major events, support local businesses and provide welcoming public spaces for local residents and visitors alike.

The adjacent training field is being remodelled, with new basketball hoops and landscaped community spaces for walking, picnics and family play. Improved pathways throughout the precinct will provide safer, more accessible pedestrian connections.

These improvements are aimed at transforming Penrith Stadium into a vibrant, inclusive destination – a place for sport, entertainment and everyday community life.

How the eastern concourse is transforming the visitor experience

The highly anticipated new Penrith Stadium focuses on fan comfort, accessibility, and an enhanced game-day experience. One of the stadium’s standout feature is the eastern concourse.

Positioned beneath the eastern grandstand, the eastern concourse forms the stadium’s primary public frontage and arrival experience. Designed as an active, covered space, it will be used year-round, supporting match days and major events.

The wide, level concourse layout has been carefully planned to support smooth crowd flow. Step-free access, clear wayfinding and generous circulation space make it easier for people of all ages and abilities to move comfortably and safely through the stadium.

From the concourse, fans will enjoy viewing points that offer uninterrupted sightlines to the field. The modern architectural design allows spectators to take in the atmosphere and follow every moment of the action without having to leave the space.

The eastern concourse has also been designed to improve convenience. Multiple food and beverage outlets and quick-service counters are integrated along the concourse, alongside an increased number of bathrooms. Together, these features are designed to reduce queues and ensure fans can grab food or drinks without missing a minute of the action.

Lighting installation

The installation of four new lighting towers marks another major step for the new Penrith Stadium, upgrading facilities and elevating the experience for players, fans and concertgoers.

Rising 50 metres above the stadium, each tower (including its head frame) weigh 20 tonnes and are fitted with Light-Emitting Diode (LED) floodlights, designed to meet the demands of modern sporting and entertainment events. The lighting towers will improve visibility on the field, while creating a more immersive experience for players, fans and concertgoers.

The LED floodlights have a lifespan of up to 100,000 hours, significantly reducing ongoing maintenance needs. The new system also offers up to 38% savings on energy costs, making it an environmentally and financially sustainable choice.

To improve player conditions and audience comfort, the LED lighting features advanced optics to reduce glare and improves clarity on the field, while minimising light spill into surrounding areas. Additionally, the installation of 24 sport lights on the grandstand roofs will provide better visibility for athletes and spectators alike.

A fully automated control system allows the lighting to be tailored to different events, from regular season matches to major concerts. The system also enables dynamic lighting shows, helping to build atmosphere and excitement before and during events.

Installed by local contractor Smada Electrical, the upgrade reflects a strong commitment to quality, innovation, and local delivery, supporting regional expertise while delivering cutting-edge infrastructure for Western Sydney.
