Panthers confirm Eisenhuth retirement

Penrith Panthers can confirm that Matt Eisenhuth has announced his retirement from rugby league, effective immediately.

The 33-year-old forward played 145 NRL matches since making his debut in 2017 including 70 appearances for the Wests Tigers and 75 for the Panthers.

In addition to his NRL career, Eisenhuth played 119 matches across the Under-20s competition and NSW Cup. He was a key contributor to the Panthers’ 2022 NSW Cup premiership and State Championship triumph.

While not featuring on the field in the club’s NRL Grand Final victories, Eisenhuth played an important role during Penrith’s historic four consecutive premierships, earning widespread respect for his professionalism, leadership and team-first attitude.

Eisenhuth was recognised as the club’s 2024 Club Person of the Year, reflecting his outstanding contribution both on and off the field.

He also had the honour of captaining the Panthers in his final NRL appearance in Round 26 last season, before concluding his professional playing career representing the Australian Prime Minister’s XIII.

Panthers Rugby League CEO Matt Cameron paid tribute to Eisenhuth’s contribution to the club.

“I had the pleasure of coaching Matt as a young NYC player, and to see him finish his career representing the Australian PM’s XIII against Papua New Guinea was incredibly special,” Cameron said.

“He has been an incredibly valued member of our organisation, and it’s been a privilege to watch his transition from a young player into the professional and respected athlete he is today.

“His work ethic, leadership and commitment to the team helped set the standard for those around him, and he played an important role in the success we’ve enjoyed in recent years.”
