Panthers return to winning ways

The Panthers scored an important 24-18 victory over St George Dragons at Jubilee Stadium on Sunday.

After being held to two draws and falling to several narrow defeats in recent weeks, the Panthers returned to winning ways by overcoming the Dragons away from home.

The Panthers conceded the opening try but stormed to life with three unanswered tries before half-time.

Jae Patu opened the Panthers account when she muscled her way over the line, and Claudia Bush's conversion put Penrith ahead 6-4.

Bush continued to terrorise the Dragons with her right boot, putting two clever kicks in behind the defence for both Natalia Webb and Abbie Grant to score.

The Panthers hit the sheds with a 16-4 lead, but the Dragons set their sights on a comeback with the first try of the second half.

The Panthers would ultimately prove too strong and took a commanding 24-8 lead into the final 15 minutes after Kahu Cassidy and Ruthie Aunei-Mose assisted tries for Oriana Epati and Jacinta Tui, respectively.

Two Dragons tries set up a grandstand finish, but proved mere consolation as the Panthers picked up an important two points.

The Panthers return home to BEST Hub for their final two games of the season against the Knights and Bulldogs.
