UPDATE @ 12.30PM - Josh Mansour joins Reagan Campbell-Gillard in the Kangaroos squad!

Panthers prop Reagan Campbell-Gillard has been added to the Australian squad to contest the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.

Campbell-Gillard, who on Wednesday night was awarded the 2017 Merv Cartwright Medal, received the surprise news from Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga on Thursday morning.

His call-up comes following the decision of Andrew Fifita to withdraw from the Kangaroos squad in order to play for Tonga.

Sione Katoa named in star-studded Tonga outfit

"Andrew called me and said he was passionate about playing for Tonga and I respect and support that decision," Meninga said.

"It is obviously a significant boost for Tonga as well as the World Cup – and international Rugby League in general.

"At the same time it is also a great opportunity for someone like Reagan, who has been outstanding for the Panthers.

"I'm extremely excited about seeing Reagan in a Kangaroos jersey."
