Panthers forward Trent Merrin has been awarded the 2016 Merv Cartwright Medal after an outstanding debut season for the club.

Merrin played 25 games for the Panthers in 2016, finishing with five tries, 56 offloads, 861 tackles and 3891 running metres.

With enthusiasm and passion, he embraced the role of leading the young and relatively inexperienced Panthers forward pack into battle every week.

His impressive form was rewarded earlier this week with selection in Mal Meninga's Kangaroos squad to contest the Four Nations.

Merrin's work on the field was matched equally by his dedication to the community and he was the Panthers nominee for the 2016 Ken Stephen Medal.
