Six Panthers have been called up for the Tonga train-on squad ahead of their Rugby League World Cup qualifier against Cook Islands.

Sika Manu, Leilani Latu, Ben Murdoch-Masila, Sione Katoa, Daniel Foster and Malakai Watene-Zelezniak have been named in the initial squad.

Tonga tackles Cook Islands at Campbelltown Stadium on Saturday October 17, with the winner to contest the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.

Pacific representation at next year's tournament has been reduced from five teams to four.

PNG, Fiji and Samoa, as the highest ranked sides, are already included in the draw, and it will be either Cook Islands or Tonga who make up the Pacific quartet.
