2020 Year Book

2020 has been one of the most difficult and challenging years I can remember in my time with Rugby League. There has been a number of issues, but the biggest being COVID-19 and the stress it has placed on our members, the Junior League Board, staff and every player and volunteer with the Penrith Junior League.

This year, there were times when I thought we would never get a competition started, let alone completed, but with hard work, (special thanks to Nathan, Ian and the Junior league staff), we did have a competition and we did complete it.

This was only possible with long hours of discussion, usually via zoom, setting up a number of scenarios, trying to pre-empt what COVID-19 conditions may arise or changes that occurred hourly. There huge expectations placed on Clubs and Clubs not knowing if they would be able to manage the strict conditions placed on them.

An unfortunate effect of COVID was the loss of many jobs from our Panther Community, the loss of our NSWRL Major Competitions, the shortening of our competition and the loss of every Clubs presentation day. With all this in mind, I feel that the Junior League produced a strong competition for our Juniors up to 19s and then worked with the Clubs to have the Seniors play in the NSWRL Conference Competition.

The introduction of a new and different Under 6 Gala Day was a highlight in 2020. This has proven to be a great addition to our calendar. Having 700 U6s donning a Panthers jersey and playing at BlueBet Stadium was a very exciting concept and was met with nothing but positive comments.

I would like to thank Nathan, Ian and all staff for making our Junior League the best in NSW and one to be proud of. Without their commitment and hard work during 2020, there would not have been a competition. I would also like to thank all 24 clubs for their ongoing trust and support in the Junior League Board and staff.

Finally, I would also like to personally thank the Junior League Board for their support and hard work, during what has been a very difficult year.
