Stats Insider - Newton's Law

While we didn’t get the result we were after against Newcastle on Monday night, there were some positive signs to come from the loss. Most notably, the performance of our returning prop Tim Grant.

Grant produced a game-high 16 runs for 111m, 29 tackles and a tackle break from the bench, in a promising return from a calf injury which has plagued the start of his 2012 campaign.

What else can we take from the match? We’ve crunched the numbers and come up with the key stats from the clash against the Newcastle Knights.

STAT
Michael Jennings was at his dynamic best, running for 134m, scoring a try, making a line break and 8 tackle breaks, the most of any player. This was all from just 60 minutes, before he unfortunately left the field with a shoulder injury.

STAT
On his return to his former club, Clint Newton finished strongly, with 2 tries in the last 20 minutes. He also had 4 tackle breaks, an offload and line break in a big 52 minutes from the bench.

One player who is consistently among our best statistically is Cameron Ciraldo, who continued to post big numbers in Newcastle, with 41 tackles, 2 offloads, a tackle break and try assist. He scored 61 Dream Team points, which will please the 4,370 coaches who have him in their side.

STAT
In addition to Grant, our props made plenty of metres up the middle. Sam McKendry (138m), Dayne Weston (97m), and Chris Armit (80m) combined for 315m, with Armit also coming up with 2 offloads in just 31 minutes of game time.

STAT
The Panthers had the better of possession - 55% for the game. This bodes well for the coming weeks, as that amount of time with the ball will lead to more points scored and in-turn better results for our side.
