Injuries only an excuse says Lewis

Panthers captain Luke Lewis says that they can’t use injuries as an excuse for their recent poor form following their 34-14 loss to the Knights at Hunter Stadium.

Luke Walsh was another victim with a knee injury, as the Panthers weren’t able to control the Knights sparkling attack at home.

Lewis, who said that he wasn’t suffering from an injury himself, knows that it is hard when key players are missing.

“Obviously it’s been difficult not having a few players who have played a lot of first grade and have that experience there,” Lewis said.

“At the end of the day that’s an excuse.

“We’ve still got 17 blokes out there on the field that can do the job, and at the moment we’re not doing it.”

Coach Ivan Cleary said that while the injuries were disappointing, they have to work through it.

“They haven’t (helped), but every club gets injuries,” Cleary said.

“It’s hard to take when you’ve already got your hooker out and you lose your halfback.

“That obviously affected our continuity throughout the game, which at a time like now wasn’t great.

“It is tough times, there’s no doubt about that.”
